Fat Tuesday is approaching for another year of revelry in the Crescent City. Most local cats have experienced the jubilation before, but newcomers may be caught off guard. The city's human population spends an entire week celebrating the pre-Lent festival season, during which city officials are so preoccupied that the cats can do pretty much whatever they please without interference from animal control. In the heart of the French Quarter, the party rages every night, with frequent parades and all manner of drunken excitement. One would be wise to avoid the area unless they're used to the crowds, as it's easy for a cat to be stepped on or otherwise injured when he gets too close to the party. But brave felines might find a wealth of treasures among the celebrators; this is the season when the city's food really comes into its own, what with all the tourists in the area, and a free and delicious meal is easier to find than ever. If you can find it safely, that is. Many cats take to the outskirts of the Quarter or even to the bayous at this time of year, although some may stay for the party.
